Bay and Cameron talk about shooting in 3D. They make some good points as to how young of a tech 3D really is. They also talk about the issues shooting in 3D come with. There is even a hint dropped that there are newer cameras, even since Transformers 3, that allow a director to hand hold a 3D camera.
I’m going to let you guys in on a little secret.
On Sunday, after spending a week on-and-off with Final Cut Pro X and pretty deep in a funk about it, I made a little thing. I did it because I was inspired in a small way, but I also did it because I had a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5 here,…

I think “navigullible” should be a word. Its for the buttons or a navigation on web sites that make you think your going somewhere or getting something that’s not true.
Think about it, “Free Download” buttons. Duh! Its free to download but you still have to pay for it. These assume the users are “navigullible”. Expecting users to click to get something when you end up tricking them. Oh surprise its not free or available! Its irritating and deceptive.
Another example is when a site says “click here to be notified of when the site is live (or the product is available)”. Then you get news letters every week. No, i clicked here to be notified when its ready, not constantly updated about its progress.
When building a web site, be honest don’t trick your users. Don’t make them navigullible.
When building web pages that we want people to link to on facebook I’ve been adding some small code and images to control the thumbnail that is offered in facebook. Here is what im talking about making:

So for starts we make a div and place it at the very top of the content. The big thing is to make it the very FIRST image in the mark up. I often place it right after the opening body tag. I call it Facebook Bait:

I would even recommend adding some other images as well, this way all the thumbnail options are controlled.
Next up is the CSS, its really simple:

That’s it. Now if someone links to your site then then thumbnail options will be exactly what you want them to be.
Another use? Well say groveshark linked to an song to share, then the album cover could be the controlled thumbnail. Or say a blog post about icon design. You don’t want the ads on the blog to be the thumbnail you want it to be the icons.
This could easily be added to wordpress, joomla or your favorite CMS. Go on try it, let me know how it works for you.
So today Googles logo is monochrome… Yesterday it was a physics-mouse-reacting HTML5-beauty… Are these hints that seem to be pointing to John Dalton, a man known for his research into color blindness?
Maybe.
Today Google is making an announcement. The event is called “Search On” and is being held at an art museum. A very visual place. Oh and they just bought Like.com. A visual based search engine. So will Googles search be visual?
Maybe.
In the future though, when you see a new fancy Google logo, it makes you think, are they dropping hints for new Google stuff? Or is it just something cool…
I’ve always been interested in them. I took a few while covering the World Winter Games for Lithia Motors a couple of years ago, and got bitten by the bug. Albeit lightly. Then… i got a new cell phone that takes panographic pictures! So you see alot of people taking pics with their iPhone, but i take photos like these. Be sure to zoom in and pan around! There is even a link for full screen.
So with that, i think you’ll see more and more of these as I can. I also do a little post processing now days. Oh and here is the Little Shop of Bagels in Medford Oregon.
I’ve come to the conclusion that my phone is not only a jab in the side of my productivity, but it may also be its saving grace. This morning I posted on facebook and tweeted that i would attempt to use my phone for all my personal communications. Some of you asked why.
First, I spend way to much time on twitter and facebook for my job, which makes it easy to get wrapped up in it for my personal use. Add that to the fact i got a fancy new android phone and you have a recipe for a super fun lifehacking experiment.
So here is my plan. I will attempt to use my phone for ALL personal communications in the next two weeks. Except, when I’m home. When home, I’ll use it for all communications when I’m not working at my computer. Sounds easy. Except, I’m a creature of habit, and a keyboard ninja (not my title, a co-worker said i was), and I’m at a computer for 8 to 12 hours a day, even on weekends. I also work on my computers with only about 50% - 60% mouse time. I use the keyboard to launch apps, navigate menu’s, switch apps and well, to type words. Like these. So when I want to check twitter, I hit a key stroke that launches my twitter app, and I use the keyboard to navigate and reply. Making it VERY easy to be auto pilot and just hit it. Next thing I know, its been 15 min and I’m still tweeting from my computer. And not working. Now add facebook and email, and you can see how quickly my productivity drops. Not to mention how this is affecting my productivity train. More on that later.
So what happens when I want to get something done. Well, I simply place my phone face down. If I don’t see the notifications, then I don’t get wrapped up in it. If I’m on facebook or twitter on my desktop, then I’m doing it for work. If I’m on my phone tweeting way, or catching up with friends and family on facebook, then im leaning back, standing or away from my desktop. Simple. Doing this adds a physical disconnect from work and personal stuff. Not just a separate log in, but a complete physical change.
I encourage you to try the same (obviously if you have a data plan), and see if you become more productive. On a related side note, today while doing this, i felt less creative. I felt like i couldn’t get into the grove of my work… But then again, it was Monday.
Well I’m mostly a video producer, I’m also working in the web design industry and often feel I’m futurist in the making. This part of my site is so I have a place where I can get my ideas and thoughts out to friends that aren’t directly related (but often are) to these two industries. In short, I often find my self ranting on and on, and so having a place where i can post these should make for a decent collection. Also, so I don’t bore my friends.
